Glasgow Warriors supporters raised almost £3,500 in aid of the Yorkhill Children’s Foundation at last Friday’s 31-3 win over Cardiff Blues.
The Foundation, an official Warriors charity partner, saw their logo displayed on all 23 Glasgow match jerseys for the game, with five of the shirts then used to encourage donations via a variety of auctions and raffles.
The top worn by lock Tom Ryder was raffled in the concourse of the Jackie Husband stand and the Supporters Bar, a post-match bucket collection taking the sum raised in these areas to over £2,300.
In excess of £800 was raised in the Warriors hospitality section, where the shirts worn by Alastair Kellock, Chris Cusiter and Duncan Weir were auctioned.
The jersey that attracted the highest bid was the number 15 sported by Stuart Hogg, which drew an offer of £350 on an online auction.
Abigail Stein, corporate and events fundraising manager for Yorkhill Children’s Foundation, said: “We are absolutely thrilled with the total raised at the Warriors game last week and would like to express sincere thanks to all the fans who helped raise this fantastic amount.
“Every penny donated at the game will help Yorkhill Children’s Foundation to fund vital projects which assist the medical staff at Yorkhill Hospital to provide the best possible care for Scotland’s sick children.”
Warriors head coach Sean Lineen said: “It’s fantastic to hear that the Warriors supporters have got behind this great cause and raised a really impressive sum.
“The Glasgow crowd have been great for us all season, and we’ll be doing everything we can to repay that backing by pushing on and achieving success in the last couple of months of the campaign.”
