Wins for Ayr and Hawks

Ayr's Mark Stewart marked the new season with a treble
Ayr and Glasgow Hawks made winning starts to the new Premier One season.

Ayr travelled to Mansfield Park to play newly promoted Hawick and it was last season's runners-up who grabbed a 36-22 bonus point win.

Centre Mark Stewart was the main beneficiary of slack tackling with a hat-trick, the other Ayr scores coming from Ross Curle and Jamie Hunter. Curle added four conversions and a penalty.

At Old Anniesland Glasgow Hawks were too strong for West Of Scotland with the hosts running out 41-15 winners. The Gossman brothers dominated the scoresheet with winger Kerr scoring three tries and full back Craig a double.

The other Hawks try was picked up by Nico Nyemba, with Mike Adamson kicking three conversions while Andy White added one and a penalty.

West's scorers were Mark Jenkinson and Alex Fisken with Conor Davis adding the kicks.
