Mike is one of Scotland's elite development players connected to Glasgow Warriors.

Mike played for Scotland in the U18 Five Nations Festival in Italy in April 2009. Earlier in the year he was in the Stewarts Melville College team who were runners-up in the Bell Lawrie Scottish Schools Cup. Previously, he played for Edinburgh U18 in 2008 and was named best player in Gloucester Rugby’s summer academy the same year. He has earned rugby and athletics colours at Stewart’s Melville College.

Outside rugby he has twice won the Lothian schools’ cross-country championship, and he was the Stewart's Melville athletics champion three times. He is the Scottish Schools' current snare drumming champion. Mike's brother, Ross, has won rugby honours in South African rugby, captaining the South African Rugby Legends Academy, the Border Bulldogs' Currie Cup U21 team, and Selbornian Old Boys at that age level.
