Petrie had injured his left thumb playing in last month’s Bank of Scotland Pro Rugby Cup match against Edinburgh Rugby at Meadowbank and the initial diagnosis suggested the damage would require surgery. However, on examination at hospital the injury was discovered to be less severe than first thought and a hand specialist has given Petrie the go-ahead to resume training and playing.
Scotland manager Douglas Morgan confirmed today that Petrie would be considered when the selectors meet this week to choose Scotland’s squad for their opening RBS 6 Nations Championship match against Ireland.
