Hugh Campbell believes Glasgow's latest signings will help to strengthen the Warriors squad for the expanded Celtic League campaign.

The new coaching team have swooped for two experienced Zurich Premiership campaigners. Back-five forward Joe Beardshaw of Wasp and Newcastle utility back Gareth McClure have passed checks by the Glasgow physio are ready to join up next month for pre-season training.

Campbell said: "They are exciting signings for us. We have done our background on them and the reports coming back have all been very positive, which is why we've snapped them up.

"Gareth will become Scottish-qualified in six months' time I understand, but Joe will join Joe Naufahu as our non-Scots in the squad.

"It's well known we haven't had a big budget to play with, and Gareth is one of several players who will be starting off on short-term contracts, but we are confident we have managed to strengthen the quality we already had here quite shrewdly."

Glasgow will play Newcastle in a friendly at Hughenden on Friday, 22 August, a week after playing Gloucester in a training match at Kingsholm on August 14.
