New Glasgow head coach Hugh Campbell has welcomed the allocation of pro players to clubs in the top two divisions.

He commented: "This will be much healthier and even though we might see more players moving in the other direction next season, because of the World Cup, it's definitely a good opportunity and should see both clubs and ourselves benefit in time."

The future of former Glasgow centre James McLaren remains uncertain after he told The Scotsman that he is currently without a club. He had signed an initial agreement to join Castres Olympique from Bordeaux-Begles, but revealed: "They chose instead to go for the French international Richard Dourthe.

"That's disappointing for me, but I'm looking at other options and will sort something out when I return to France at the weekend."
