Former Glasgow centre Joe Naufahu was last night forced to admit defeat in his battle against injury.

Joe has opted to retire from rugby but has vowed to stay at ambitious GHA as part of their coaching team.

Joe, who moved to Braidholm after his Warriors pro-contract ended, had been sidelined by a worsening knee problem. And medical experts warned him he would be taking a huge gamble by continuing to play.

GHA coach Dave Wilson told the Daily Record: "Joe was frustrated at not being able to perform to his own standards."

"He went home to New Zealand over the festive period to think things through and we are delighted that he will be still attached to the club, although we will definitely miss him on the pitch."
