Gareth Maclure look set to leave Glasgow
Today's edition of The Herald reports that Gareth Maclure will be leaving Glasgow.

The report indicates that Gareth is joining another four players who have already had their departures confirmed - Joe Beardshaw, Andy Hall, David Millard and Andy Kelly.

Gareth joined Glasgow on a short contract a couple of seasons ago and some impressive performances earned him an extended deal. A run of bad luck on the injury front have hampered Gareth's chances to impress this season.

Ironically, news of Gareth's departure is contained within an article about the pros and cons of being a professional rugby player in Scotland.

Yet another guy told a few weeks back he had a future at Glasgow Rugby!

Wonder if Campbell and the SRU decide who's staying and who's going by flipping a coin on a said day. Heads your out, tails you stay!

If it is true that players are told they have a future and are then dumped that is totally unacceptable. Are you sure about that? What recourse does a player have? Perhaps to tell his employers he will only respond to communications in writing?

Well I'm afraid this is the way the SRU are operating under a supposed "professional era" in world rugby union.

The pro players have no official union or official representative to talk things over with...some officials within the Scottish game seem to be oblivious about filling paperwork out correctly when needed.

You read in a newspaper interview, elsewhere on this site, about the SRUs "pro apprentice scheme" which is a shambles and an absolute joke for the young Scottish players aspiring to become a pro player.

The whole approach of dealing with playing staff within the SRU needs ripped down and rebuilt from scratch.
