Glasgow bring in quality signings

Lome Fa'atau looks set to join up with Glasgow Warriors
Glasgow Warriors are reported to be signing Daryl Gibson, Kelly Brown and Lome Fa'atau for next season.

Today's Herald reports that the Warriors will be signing Gibson, a former All Black, Brown, the Scotland flanker, and Fa'atau, a Samoa international winger.

Sean Lineen, the Glasgow head coach, said yesterday that he could not yet confirm any signings other than those already officially announced.

"We are very hopeful of being able to do so shortly once all the paperwork is in place," he said in The Herald.

It was already known that Michael Collins, the former Waikato Chiefs captain, and Chris O'Young, the Western Force scrum-half, will be joining, along with Dougie Hall, the Scotland hooker who first signed professional terms with Glasgow before switching to Edinburgh.

The Herald also reports that Moray Low has earned a full-time contract, while Mike Adamson has also been upgraded from an apprentice contract. Max Evans is also thought to be joining the Warriors on a longer term deal. Ed Kalman, originally a product of Whitecraigs, has had an excellent season with Border Reivers and has been joined in moving from them to Glasgow by the Dundonian Richie Vernon.

Daryl Gibson brings a wealth of experience as a four-time Super 12 winner with Canterbury Crusaders who won 19 caps for the All Blacks. He is currently helping Leicester Tigers try to complete an unprecedented treble. They have won the Anglo-Welsh Trophy and have the Guinness Premiership and Heineken Cup finals still to come.

Lome Fa'atau is a top-class finisher who was the leading try-scorer in last year's Super 14 when he helped Wellington Hurricanes reach the final.

Kelly Brown was recently voted players' player of the year at the Scottish Professional Rugby Association awards and, following news that the Border Reivers were to be disbanded, his signature has been very much sought after.

this is excellent news.

really looking forward to next season though everytime we have a great season then the next has been a stinker.

However think this one will be different. We must be in with a chance of winning it though the world cup is a bit of a wild card and will determine a lot of what happens next year.

How we play during the world cup is going to be masively important to the quality of our season. We are going tobe badly affected by call ups (Tkachuk, Va'a, Kellock, Beattie?, Brown?, Parks, Henderson, Leonelli, Evans?, Fa,atau). But we seem to building up some real strength in depth. We'll still have a front row, second row a bit thin but servicable. A quality back row. Unknown qauntity at scrum-half abut hopefully a head screwed on Gregor. till a solid midfield. We'll be a litle light in the back 3 but hopefully we can manage.

Lets be a bit more positive and realistic. With all these new signings, they will need an adjustment period until they settle in to the team. I think it's fair to say they are on the up from previous seasons, so move on from the past and support the future.

Now, the best news in that lot must be that Moray Low has earned a full-time contract! but the other signings look great!

that is fantastic news. It would be great to have them all here. Looking forward to Kelly Brown. That will be intresting. Hope that Max Evans does get a long term contract cause he is a great guy and would be good to see him and Thom playing together. Look at the last pair of brothers who played for Glasgow both are now Scotland Internationals!!!!

Wow! There are some really good players in there, a couple of unknowns but if they do come, Glasgow will be a fearsome sight! Lets just hope the team stays in Glasgow and we can all see if we can make a grab at some silverwear next season! ALLEZ GLASGOW!

"The Hurricanes made it to the 2006 Super 14 final, where they went down to the Crusaders in bizarre weather. Although not finishing as champions, Fa'atau was not only the top try scorer for the Hurricanes, but the lead try scorer of the season amassing a grand total of 9 tries through a combination of graceful, elusive yet blisteringly fast running."

Sounds like just the type of player we need. With Evans on the other wing, we'll have a really dangerous back line.

Fa'atau is an absolute flying machine who scores tries for fun. Would be an outstanding signing if it goes through. Kelly Brown will be excellent also, slightly eases the pain of losing JP and Manchild. Mind you he'll have his work cut out to break into the starting back row!

The Big Fella. Re the ping-pong between 'phall' and 'behindtheposts' does anyone know if Michael Collins played minis for Clonakilty RFC ?

Just a thought.
