Glasgow go for the win

Sean Lineen says Glasgow will get it right at Vicarage Road
Glasgow coach Sean Lineen says his team must sharpen up their attack if they want to make a winning start to this season's Heineken Cup campaign.

The Warriors face a trip to Vicarage Road on Sunday to take on Saracens.

“I shouldn’t think Saracens will be quaking in their boots when they see the tape of our attack,” Sean told The Times, reflecting on Glasgow's 25-6 win over Ulster. The Warriors only crossed the white wash once in that win, spurning a number of try-scoring opportunities.

“We are going down there to win, that’s the philosophy and ambition we have got. I am confident we will get it right next weekend. It is a huge stage but we have some very experienced players. It is an exciting week, and we have to savour being on the European stage and make the most of it.”

That message was echoed by John Beattie, the Glasgow No 8. “Some of our play was a bit patchy but it is starting to come,” said John. “We have to harness that and put it into practice next week at Saracens. It will be a different kind of game compared to Ulster who are a bit more expansive.

“They are really keen on their set-piece, scrummaging and lineout. Last year we ended up losing to a penalty try for scrums and were shoved about a bit but when we played them on a soggy, disgusting day in Glasgow, we held them. That is what we have to do again. We held Ulster to nil at half time with some fantastic defence, that is what we have to do again next week.”

Will there be any live updates on this site? I see other sites have a link for this service, why don't we?! ;)

Because the people who run this site are first and foremost supporters, and prefer to be at the games in person!

Aye, I'm still paying off my 'phone bill from Parma, last season!

Maybe Vicki, some of us are working with actual clubs on Saturday / have work to go to on Monday / can't afford to travel away all the time!
Lucky you that you CAN go, but please don't be so dismissive of those who just want to keep up to date how the game is going - it doesn't make them any less valuable as supporters!

I didn't get the impression Vicki was being dismissive or saying any supporters were more valuable than any other.

Vicki was certainly not being dismissive. Simply giving a reason why there are no regular updates.

Jim, if I recall correctly, this trip cost me around £45 including the supporters' bus. Down and back same day on the Sunday ..no need to miss any club commitments. Cheapest trip of the season (Edinburgh excepted) and a European Cup match... and I'll be at work on Monday also! If you want to post your mobile, I'll be happy to sent text update if I am capable! ;)

could it not be on local radio??

Radio Scotland dont provide schedules (at least not where ive looked) but will probably be broadcasting a football match. Radio 5 is probably the best bet, but if its on BBC then details will be posted on their match preview on Fri/Sat. Failing that, you could try either ERC or Saracens websites (and possibly BBC for that matter) and there will probably be highlights on Sky later on sunday or during the week.

This does raise some valid points though, why dont the club make it easier to follow the team on the road for those of us who cant afford/dont have the time to attend away matches?

I seem to remember that BBC Three Counties (Radio) usually cover the Saracens matches. I think the ERC website will give a link.

Who's going to pay for it Eck?

An excellent point, Gary. I provided updates from Donnybrook and Parma last season. It was not cheap! Gordon and his team contribute quite enough to this site as it is. Very few can compare with it.

well im assuming the team will have officials at all our games, and that most grounds probably have the facilities to provide an internet connection. it wouldnt take much to keep the latest score on the website would it? im not really looking for minute by minute updates, just a reliable live score would please me. (osperys game was going well until the updates stope with 20 minutes to go!)

The travelling officials usually have a busy time when we are away from home!

Aye, 3CR had live coverage last season for the games down there
