Glasgow's Steve Swindall had a fine Churchill Cup
Scotland 'A' lost out 36-19 to England Saxons in Churchill Cup final in Chicago last night.

Gordon Ross kicked 14 points for the Scots with Glasgow's Colin Gregor going over fro a try.

Scotland A Head Coach Rob Moffat said: “We were probably seen as underdogs going into this game but we came here to win the Barclays Churchill Cup.

”The boys trained very well over the three weeks and performed well at times. We just weren’t good enough on the day. There were two or three good chances today and we just didn’t take them.

“Throughout the tour we have played the type of rugby that we wanted to play and I’m proud of the players for achieving that.”

Scotland 'A': Steve Jones (Newcastle Falcons); Mark Robertson (Edinburgh), Rob Dewey (Ulster), Calum MacRae (Edinburgh), Roland Reid (Edinburgh); Gordon Ross (Saracens), Colin Gregor (Glasgow Warriors); Ed Kalman (Glasgow Warriors), Fergus Thomson (Glasgow Warriors) CAPTAIN, David Young (Leicester Tigers), Fergus Pringle (Edinburgh), Dan Turner (Glasgow Warriors), James Eddie (Glasgow Warriors), Alan MacDonald (Edinburgh), Stevie Swindall (Glasgow Warriors)

Substitutes: Scott Newlands (Edinburgh) for Pringle (40 mins), Andrew Turnbull (Edinburgh) for Robertson (47 mins), Tommy McGee (Leeds Carnegie) for Young (53 mins) for Kalman (69 mins), A Kelly (Edinburgh) for Thomson (57 mins), Andy Miller (Exeter Chiefs) for Swindall (60 mins), Jim Thompson (Edinburgh) for Reid (65 mins), Mark McMillan (Wasps) for Jones (73 mins)

What a game! I really enjoyed this one, well for the first 70 minutes anyway. Callum Macrea was sensational, Gordon Ross, our 14 (forgotten his name) and Fullback were also on fire for large parts of the game. No shame in losing if you go down all guns blazing I suppose. Got to give credit to the Saxons tho, they played with far more flair than their senior side has shown since '03!

Tell me again why Ross is in the A side while Godman went to Argentina...

I think two things have definitely come out of this tour, Ross deserves to start at 10 for the full side and Colin Gregor's future, for Glasgow and Scotland, lies in a number 9 shirt.

"deserves" on the basis of playing well for the second team as opposed to the other 10's who beat the Argentinians ..not so sure there.

Given that you can only play what is in front of you, any other judgement would be harsh. I saw the three Churchill Cup games, I saw Ross play well. He should have a chance in the AIs, otherwise why send players on "development" competitions? To say , "Well done but the status quo remains!"

Come on guys, what about the way Glasgow's "second string" forwards performed? The competition for places is excellent.
