Glasgow coach Sean Lineen was left disappointed as his team missed out on retaining top place in the Magners League after the 19-19 draw against Connacht in Galway.

“We were disappointed with the result,” said Sean in the Times. “I had been impressed with the attitude all week, there were a lot of big performances from young players, but in the end one missed tackle in defence and missed kicks cost us. We wanted a win, though, and did not get it. At least the draw keeps us in the hunt.”

The result keeps Glasgow in the mix for the play-offs zone, but they head for Leinster with the same side — weakened as it is by Scotland demands — before the international players come back to try to finish the job of earning a knockout place.

“The back row — James Eddie, Calum Forrester and Richie Vernon — were magnificent and I was really impressed by the two young centres, Peter Horne and Peter Murchie, as well, but really the whole team knuckled down. There were two good tries and they never looked like scoring a try until one player fell off a tackle. We went through 18 phases for that final score. You can’t question their commitment.

“Connacht are a very different team from Cardiff and very different from our next challenge, which will be Leinster two days before Scotland play Ireland in Dublin. That is a huge challenge for these players. Even with all their Ireland players away, Leinster can put out an almost entirely international back division. It will be a tough game, but I hope that the Scotland supporters over in Dublin for the big game will come and give us their backing.”
