Warriors gear up for the new campaign

Ruaridh Jackson gets the nod at stand-off
Sean Lineen has named his Glasgow Warriors team to play Leinster in the first game of the 2010/11 Magners League season (Fri 3 Sep, ko 7.05pm).

Sean says Glasgow pre-season preparations have gone well but he knows that from Friday, the intensity will be completely different as league points are up for grabs.

He told glasgowwarriors.org: "Our game against Sale at Firhill was a good stepping stone but we know it's going to be a massive physical test against Leinster.

"It's always a good battle with Leinster. They've got a lot of youngsters as well but they've also got plenty experience. The back-row, which I rate very highly, is their weapon."

With Glasgow's injury problems well-documented, Sean has been impressed with the application of some of his younger charges, particularly Richie Gray whose task it is to fill the void left by club captain Alastair Kellock.

"Richie Gray knows that Al Kellock's out for a while so he's really taking that mantle," said Sean. "He and Tom Ryder are forming a really good second row combination.

"We had 2,500 people at our pre-season game which has never been done before, so we're obviously capturing peoples' imagination to have that number at a friendly.

"They made a lot of noise and that's really important. I hope they do it again on Friday and we give them reason to do that."

This game is live on BBC ALBA and BBC Radio Scotland.

Why the hell shouldn't we beat this lot? I'm well up for this one and hope the boys are too. Actually, judging how they played in the friendlies I have no doubt they'll be champing at the bit for this.

I'd like to suggest perhaps on the website it mentions when the game is repeated where possible. This lets folk know they can go to the game and still see it on TV rather than the single option of wedging themselves on the sofa.

Bigger crowds. Better games.

surely if it's on BBC Alba it can be viewed again on iPlayer?

A 5-3 split on the bench suggests we're going to take them on up front. My main concern is there is no cover at 9. Unfortunately I this is one of the matches I can't make. I'm really gutted about that especially after being at the pre-season game and being more than heartened by that performance. Do us proud boys!!

As good a set of backs as we can put out, so should be fine there.

Big game for Fusaro. I assume Forrester is not fit as it would be strange for him not to be in the 23 man squad, when we have no back row cover.

I'm sure Max could fill the 9 spot if need be - he did it before he joined Glasgow.

Hef's covered 9 before as well.

bit of a weird bench - no back row cover or scrum half cover yet no apparent new injuries to players who have played in those positions during the pre season fixtures.

Rob Harleycan play in the back row. He's played plenty of rugby at 6.

Harley must surely be the back row cover, at present moment he's way to tiny to seriously be considered at lock.

Is it Fusaro or Forrester at 7? The official site has Forrester; the fansite has Fusaro. Anyone enlighten us?

From what I've heard it is Forrester in the back row. Apparently the press release used initials only!!??
