Warriors move delights Big Mike

Michael Cusack is delighted with his move to the Warriors
Michael Cusack can't wait to get started after making the move north to join up with Glasgow Warriors.

The former Leeds and Doncaster man turned down interest from Wales and the Aviva Premiership and is in no doubts he made the right move.

The big prop told the Evening Times: “Sale were keen on me as a loan signing and there was also interest from Wales, but I am delighted to have signed with Warriors.

“For me, the chance to play in the new RaboDirect Pro 12 league was just too good. This is definitely a step up in terms of comparing the league with the Championship.

“If you look at the current European champions, then they are from the RaboDirect Pro 12, with Leinster having beaten Northampton in the final.

“On top of that, my game is only going to develop from playing against the Irish, Welsh and Italian sides. I think the freshness that all of that brings is a really big attraction.

“The guarantee of playing in the Heineken Cup is another massive attraction for me.

“The facilities at Scotstoun are just different class and I have already worked with Massimo Cuttitta, the scrimmaging coach at Warriors, and I know how much hooking up with him again will benefit my game.”

A foot fracture has restricted Mike’s training so far, but he's eyeing a chance to showcase his talents when Warriors play their friendlies with Newcastle and Sale in the second half of August.

He said: “I had fractured a small bone in my left foot and had to have an operation and that has hampered me in training. But I will be seeing a specialist tomorrow and hope to be back running in a fortnight.

He added: “My target is to be ready for our friendlies with Newcastle and Sale at the end of August, so time is on my side.

“That said, it is very frustrating to have joined Glasgow and not been able to go at it at full pelt like the rest of the lads.”
