Gregor Townsend praised his team's performance in Dublin
Glasgow coach Gregor Townsend says his team put in one of their best performances of the season despite being on the wrong end of a 28-25 scoreline in Dublin.

Warriors went down to defending champions Leinster in an entertaining game at the RDS with Richie Vernon scoring a brace of tries and Nikola Matawalu also grabbing a touchdown, with the rest of the points coming from the boot of 21-year-old Finn Russell.

After the game head coach Gregor Townsend had mixed emotions and hailed his team's performance as one of their best of the season, despite only coming away with a losing bonus point for their efforts.

He said: "It was a cracking game with two very good sides going at each other for 80 minutes in difficult conditions and there were some great tries scored.

"I was very proud of the players, the way they took the initiative in attack and really took the game to Leinster and especially how we defended with real effort going in and some big tackles being made to defend our line.

It's disappointing we didn't come away with a win but we've gone up against the defending champions, really put them under pressure and scored a couple of good tries.

The Warriors are not in action again until 22 March, when they host the Scarlets at Scotstoun, but with six home games still to go the Glasgow coachhopes they can make their home advantage count as they push for a RaboDirect PRO12 play-off place.

He added: "We've got to learn how to make the most of our opportunities but I was very pleased with the performance and it sets us up well with eight games remaining, six of which are at home."
