Warriors make most of opportunities

Gregor Townsend says his side showed character at the Arms Park
Glasgow coach Gregor Townsend says his players grabbed every opportunity that came their way in Sunday's 33-12 win over Cardiff Blues.

Speaking to the media after the game, Gregor said: “We did a lot of homework on Cardiff this week, they have a lot of quality players and an aspiration to play at a high tempo.

“The difference was we took our opportunities off their mistakes, they didn’t off ours.

“We were more accurate but we showed character.

“When they had an interception that was called back for offside late in the game, four or five of our players got back to make the tackle.

“That shows how determined we are to win – whether we are home or away.”

The Warriors return to Wales this Saturday at Newport Gwent Dragons, but Gregor insists there will be no complacency from his players.

He added: “Each game we look at and work out how we can win.

“We know coming down to the Dragons next weekend will be hard. We lost twice to them last year.

“We would love to be back in the play-offs, but it’s two games down 20 to go and we know how hard it will be.

“All we are thinking of now is our next opponents and how we keep improving.

“But to finish with the character we did against Cardiff and the ability to work out where their defence wasn’t so strong, was great.

“I’ve been really pleased, pre-season, and in our first two league games, with our physical condition.

“We look sharp, we look fit, particularly in the second half.

“Our goalkicking was key too, we made five points into seven points and we finished with 100%.

“At the time when it looked like Cardiff were getting the momentum in the seocnd half our players showed real character, down to 14 men.

“The bench made a big impact as well. To get those two tries really got us in a comfortable position.”
