DTH wants to leave on a high

DTH van der Merwe will leave Glasgow at the end of the season
DTH van der Merwe says he wants to end his time at Scotstoun by helping the Warriors land some long-awaited silverware.

The Canadian international will join Scarlets next season after a six-year stint in Glasgow.

DTH, who is recovering from a hand injury, was voted the McCrea Financial Services Player of the Month for March and, after receiving his award, said: “I’ve had a good run this season with 20 games under my belt. And the hand problem I got against Cardiff a couple of weeks ago was my first major injury of the season.

“It has been a great season. We were a little disappointed with not getting further in the European side of things because we were so close to doing something special.

“The great thing is we are at the top of the Pro12 League and we’re just looking to finish the season on a high.

“It was great to clinch a play-off place by winning at Connacht last weekend.

“It’s not often you get away from Connacht with five points so we’d take that any day of the week.

“This is my sixth season with Glasgow Warriors and it has been incredible.

“We have at least three games left so I’ll be doing everything in my power to get back playing before the end of the season – and my contract.

“The hard work started this week with fitness and hopefully when I get my follow-up meetings and scans the bones will have healed.

“It would be great to leave having won silverware for Glasgow. We have been close for several years now and I’d be really pleased if I could play a role in helping us achieve that.

“We have been progressing on an annual basis. When I first came here we sold about 600 season tickets and now we’re up at 3500.

“We get regular crowds of 5-6000 at now which is great. The support we’ve been given from the community has been amazing and we’ve all grown into men as players together.”
