Warriors take on Northampton, Racing 92 and Scarlets

PRO12 Champions Glasgow Warriors took their place among the top-ranked sides in Europe at this afternoon’s draw for the 2015/16 European Rugby Champions Cup in Neuchatel, Switzerland, and have been drawn into an intriguing pool containing some familiar faces.

Gregor Townsend’s men will be joined by his former club Northampton Saints in Pool 3 as well as big-spending Parisians Racing 92 and PRO12 rivals Scarlets when the tournament gets underway in November.

The Warriors and the Saints have had many memorable European battles over the past decade, most recently in the 2012/13 competition when the English side ran out narrow 24-15 winners in the Round One fixture at Franklins Gardens, but thanks to a magnificent last gasp Peter Horne try, the tables were turned in the corresponding fixture at Scotstoun as Glasgow emerged 27-20 winners.

However, one of the most high profile visitors to Scotstoun next season, looks set to be All Blacks legend Dan Carter who has recently agreed to join French side Racing 92 after the World Cup, and demand for tickets will undoubtedly be high when they go on sale for the first ever meeting between the two sides this winter.

Joining these sides in Pool 3 will be the familiar face of DTH van der Merwe and his new club Scarlets, who also have former Warrior John Barclay in their squad. Both will be keen to record a vital European win on their return to the city when the tournament gets underway.
