Former Glasgow Warrior and Scotland sevens captain Colin Gregor has been forced to retire from professional rugby due to a knee injury.

Colin played over 100 games for Glasgow Warriors from 2004 to 2011 scoring over 300 points in the process.

He represented Scotland in the Sevens World Series competition and is currently the third highest points scorer with 1345 and has won a record 58 caps.

Colin played sevens for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and 2014, and won nine caps for Scotland A in the XV's game.

On announcing his retirement from pro rugby, Colin said: “With the new HSBC Sevens World Series having just been announced and Sevens making its debut at the Olympics next summer, it’s an exciting time for the sport. I will miss playing professional rugby and the opportunities the sport has given me to play in these incredible competitions. However, as one door closes another opens. I’m excited by what the future holds and I can look back on my career with fond memories.

"Thanks to friends and family for their support and to a number of coaches throughout my career - they have all played a major part. In particular, I have to thank Rob Moffat for his enthusiasm and dedication, and for giving me my first Sevens cap at Hong Kong back in 2003. That was an undoubted highlight of my career, as was leading the team at the Commonwealth Games at home in Glasgow last summer. What an atmosphere at Ibrox!

"I would also like to thank all the strength and conditioning coaches, physios, doctors and backroom staff that put in such work that often goes unmentioned but is never taken for granted.

"The future is an exciting time as I look to develop the numerous skills I’ve gained from working in high performance sport. I’m thrilled to be working with Sky TV and staying involved with 7s at the Olympic qualifying tournament this weekend and I am looking to create more opportunities. Similarly I look forward to developing the work I am doing in my Masters at Heriot-Watt looking at team dynamics. I believe that my passion for sport can translate to opportunities in a non-playing capacity.”
