Finn Russell said the support from Connacht was amazing
Finn Russell has thanked Connacht and the people in Ireland for the support they gave him when he was injured in the PRO12 semi-final in Galway.

Finn was stretchered from the field after colliding with Zander Fagerson in the first minute of the game and was taken to hospital in Galway, before being transferred to Dublin.

Talking to Glasgow Warriors TV, Finn said: “It was quite an early departure to the game over in Galway.

“The days after that I stayed over in Dublin at The Beaumont Hospital. It was then about making sure that I was ok before travelling home and ensuring everything had settled down.

“The way Connacht treated me was amazing. My Mum stayed over with me the whole time and they looked after her and myself.

“AJ MacGinty’s Mum and Dad came into the hospital to see me and took my Mum out for dinner to make sure she was ok.

“Dave McSharry’s Dad also put my Mum and Lisa Casey [the Warriors’ Physio] up in a hotel. The support I got from Connacht was overwhelming after my injury.”

Finn is working his way back to fitness and is looking forward to testing out Scotstoun's new artificial surface.

He said: “I’m looking forward to playing on the new artificial pitch. When I’ve played against Cardiff down there it’s been really good and I like playing on that sort of surface and it should hopefully make a quick game.

“The conditions on the pitch won’t be as wet as a grass pitch so the skills should be higher as well, so I’d imagine for the next few seasons it should be good rugby to watch.”
