Sean rejoined Glasgow after spells with Northampton and Scarlets. He signed a new one-year deal in 2016.

Sean has a deal that will see him with the Warriors until the end of May 2016.

Perth-born Sean joined Glasgow from Rotherham in 2003 after making a name for himself in the Scotland Sevens team and soon became a huge favourite with the Hughenden faithful.

He quickly caught the eye of the Scotland selectors and has gone on to win 60 caps and has played in two World Cups.

His other representative honours include Leicestershire Colts (while he was at Sheffield Hallam University) and Scottish Exiles. He joined Rotherham in 2000 and skippered their U21 team.

After two impressive seasons with Glasgow he moved to Northampton Saints in 2005 and then Scarlets in 2009.

Any more info available on Sean Lamont, from what i've seen he appears to be an excellent young player and i was wondering whether he's represented Scotland at any other level rather than 7s?

Posted by DN on November 29, 2003 10:49 PM | Reply to this comment

Sean never played any age group rugby for Scotland, He played for Leicestershire at Colts level. He then went to Sheffield Hallam University, and was recruited by Rotherham. He was then selected to play for Scottish exiles U20s. In 2001 at the age of 21 he broke into the Rotherham 1st team and was selected for the NIG Thistles at Melrose 7s and after that the full Scotland sevens team. He then gained a contract with Rotherham on the back of the Commonwealth Games in the summer of 2002.

He's been very impressive this season. Very good tackler, powerful and elusive runner when he gets the chance. Just wish more ball would come his way.

Posted by Alex on December 1, 2003 09:16 PM | Reply to this comment

Yeah he has definitley shown good form, havent seen any of the home games but have seen his performances against the welsh teams. If he has been playing like that at home as well and continues to do so, then we could well be seeing him getting a call up around six nations. Scotland could do with a player like that!!

Posted by Robbie on December 27, 2003 06:33 PM | Reply to this comment

I've followed Sean Lamont's career since I went to the Melrose Sevens a couple of years ago and he has impressed me ever since. I would like to see him at outside centre because he would bring some much needed cutting edge to the central-midfield backs, which is something that Glasgow and Scotland could really use.

Good to see him play consistantly well - Mr Williams take note!!

Totally agree with you there! Sean Lamont has been one of our most consistant players this season. He has shown great talent so far and it would be great to see him progress further.

Fantastic performance again last night from the young lad! Great to see more ball is going his way.

New Scotland coach Matt Williams was an interested spectator at the game last night.

Posted by jonno on December 14, 2003 09:46 PM | Reply to this comment

Surely after a strong start to the season Lamont will be in contention for a spot on the 6n squad.

Posted by Gordon on December 30, 2003 05:18 PM | Reply to this comment

Very surprised to see him drop out of the 6N training squad - he has at least as much to offer as Webster and Walker.

Posted by Robbie on December 30, 2003 07:57 PM | Reply to this comment

This guy Gordon is right. Simon Webster deserves his place but Nikki Walker. WHAT!! He hasn't done anything in 2003 to merit a place in the 6N squad. Lamont is by far the more useful of the two.

Posted by Phil on January 8, 2004 04:41 PM | Reply to this comment

Why is he not in the squad- An incredible decision. The best defensive winger scotland have had in the last decade, a superb offensive player as well- also stays on his feet in the tackle. He is going to have work his ass off to get back in that squad.

Posted by JM on January 10, 2004 09:53 PM | Reply to this comment

Very impressed by Lamonts performance this season. How many tries has he scored so far?

Posted by Bob the Builder on January 13, 2004 11:49 AM | Reply to this comment

I think that Lamont shouldn't be in the Scotland squad cause he's English.

Posted by FP on January 14, 2004 08:26 PM | Reply to this comment

Sean Lamont was born in Perth SCOTLAND

Both his parents are SCOTTISH

His grandparents are SCOTTISH

How does that make him English?

Posted by Robbie on January 13, 2004 02:50 PM | Reply to this comment

Scotland team for 6N (I know you can't have 2 players in one position but who cares)
Lee, Webster, Lamont/Hinshelwood, Philip, Danielli, Paterson, Blair, Taylor, Hogg(No.7), White, A Hall, Hines Kerr(No.3), Bulloch, C Smith/Jacobsen. Controvertial!!!!

Posted by Seoras MacLaumann on January 14, 2004 08:35 PM | Reply to this comment

Sean Lamont, pronounced Lamont, the macho way, is not English. I should know. He was born in Perth but was brought up in Blairgowrie and went to BHS, as I did and his father , Alasdair, his brother Rory, and his four uncles.

Rory Lamont is also very good.

Sean went to University in England and played rugby football for Rotherham, that's all!!!

Posted by jes on March 8, 2005 09:43 AM | Reply to this comment

Seoras is right about Sean going to BHS our local paper the Blairgowrie Advertiser (or the '2 minute silence' as it is known locally) wrote an article to this effect a couple of weeks ago - he is probably the only sportsman ever to be connected with Blairgowrie so they are understandably excited about it!!

Posted by Robbie on January 15, 2004 07:35 PM | Reply to this comment

What idiot said that Lamont was English. Probably some little Welsh fool like Jonathon "I hate Brendan Laney for no reason" Davies.

Posted by Gordon on January 17, 2004 02:28 PM | Reply to this comment

I understand Matt Williams has told Sean to work on his kicking game.

Posted by saintval04 on February 18, 2004 03:18 AM | Reply to this comment

I understand this is not correct!

Posted by Doug on January 19, 2004 03:53 PM | Reply to this comment

Laney is a better centre than Tom Philip at the moment.

Posted by Seoras MacLaumann on February 12, 2004 12:56 PM | Reply to this comment

Budge Pountney's retiral should remind the SRU and indeed the Scottish Executive, alike, that Scottish talent has to be developed as much as possible before that of incomers, in whatever field.

Is it that everyone wants to be Scottish or are there opportunists among them?

Good on you Sean!

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on February 15, 2004 05:17 PM | Reply to this comment

Well done Sean! Great tackle, I could see the 'seven colours'leaving the guy!
Tremendous weekend of Rugby. The four Celtic nations(The Gauls are Celtic)on Saturday. Both victors had the best anthems. I have always considered the French one the best of all; but on the day the Welsh were better. Their singing even improved our substitute anthem.
'Scots wha hae' is our true anthem for all occasions. The Irish would be better with 'The Minstrel Boy'as well.
Why do Scotland and Glasgow seem to fade in the second half? Is it fitness or mind?

Posted by Roddy Green on February 16, 2004 04:36 PM | Reply to this comment

Surely Sean was worth a place in the six nations squad eh? Let's hope that he continues this seasons form and definitely makes it in for next years tournament

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on February 29, 2004 10:33 AM | Reply to this comment

Well done the Glasgow second half try scorers
I take it all back.

I was going to write keep it up but I will refrain and urge you to continue this style of play.

We are proud of you, particularly you Sean!

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on February 18, 2004 10:59 AM | Reply to this comment

Cameron and Sean have the right idea-a lot more aggresion is needed in Scottish Rugby particularly in the 6 nations. Leave the hand-bagging to the soccer frottagers.

Posted by Robbie on February 22, 2004 05:19 PM | Reply to this comment

Great try by Lamont v Ulster. Should MW give him a chance?

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on February 24, 2004 11:41 AM | Reply to this comment

Sean Lamont's ball retention, aggressive tackling and powerful, evasive running is the mark of a true professional.

I have a grandson named Sean also. He would like an autograph of his hero and star player.

How does he go about getting one?

Where's the spell-checker on this thing?

Posted by Kim on February 27, 2004 01:24 PM | Reply to this comment

Sean is usually about after matches at Hughenden, he's always ready to sign whatever you have handy. You could get a team poster free from the merchandise trailer and get him to autograph that.

Glad to see Sean Lamont is still is putting in the tackles and scoring trys! He scored again this week and that try against Ulster... what can I say... the best I have seen all year!!!

When are we going to see this guy with a Scotland shirt on?

Posted by Robbie on February 29, 2004 03:16 PM | Reply to this comment

Who knows, but he sure deserves the chance to play for Scotland with his great try scoring consistancy.

Hey Sean, can you ask Gordon to clean up this thread?

Posted by Seoras MacLaumann on March 12, 2004 09:15 PM | Reply to this comment

I was listening, as recommended on 'Radio Borders'. It was a load of crappy music. The last I heard was that it was 11 v 8 for the Borders. The ridiculous music stopped and the two Borders commentators whispered that Sean La Mont (sic) had scored a try when nobody was looking! And, oh yes they whispered, "Glasgow's Howarth has converted. 15 v 11, incredible!

Well done Glasgow and Hugh Campbell, long may it continue.

The Scotland team was close for at least one score on Sunday. I think they needed your forcefulness, Sean Lamont.

Yes, careerwise a tour in the summer would help your career but I still think your oppotunism, aggression and your other qualities were lacking against France. What disappoints me is that the Scotland Team are individually excellent but even during the Anthems they demonstrated a lack of aggression. They look like fair minded sportsmen rather than fighters!

Posted by Robbie on March 23, 2004 09:32 AM | Reply to this comment

Why are Scotland not trying new ideas in terms of the selection and the way we play? BOD's try v Italy showed INDIVIDUAL quick thinking. Where was that with Scotland's midfield?

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on March 26, 2004 07:42 PM | Reply to this comment

Best of luck Glasgow and the Team.

Do your stuff again 'Seanie Boy'!

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on March 29, 2004 12:46 PM | Reply to this comment

Yes, the 'Force' wasn't with the 'Warriors' v Munster.

Lamont found himself in one of the most difficult defence situations in a game. A high ball from behind,a predator in the vicinity, at night with artificial lighting, in the goal area.

He had three choices, challenge the predator, wait for the bounce and chance its unpredictability or attempt to catch the ball.

Hard luck, mate; better you than me!

As usual Sean contributed, professionally, much to the remainder of the match.

Posted by Robbie on March 29, 2004 09:25 PM | Reply to this comment

If Sean was to go on tour this summer, what would his best position be?

Posted by Gordon on March 29, 2004 09:43 PM | Reply to this comment

Keep him in the left wing I'd say.

Posted by omegon on March 30, 2004 02:08 AM | Reply to this comment

My answer: wherever Scotland are weakest.
He's versatile and has the same physical attributes as Olivier Magne - 1.88m / 95kg
If Cammy Mather gets the captaincy for Australia...I'm sure HE would know!

Posted by Robbie on March 30, 2004 06:57 PM | Reply to this comment

Iain Morrison said on SSRR that Lamont has played centre and flanker. With Scotland having at last found two good wingers, could Sean have to find a new position just to try and break into the team?

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on April 2, 2004 11:51 AM | Reply to this comment

Good luck at Donnybrook tonight team and particularly you Sean! Look for the loose ball in both goal areas.

Posted by Seoras Alasdair MacLaumann on April 4, 2004 12:37 AM | Reply to this comment

Well done guys, it was so thrillingly, close. Inches!

And Dan's incredible 20 points! Is that an individual Glasgow record?

As usual Lamont's hard work contributed so much to the game.

I hope it is on Scots Sport.

Posted by big jim on April 8, 2004 11:27 AM | Reply to this comment

Lamont is as good a winger as rory kerr, a good scotland backline is
15. Paterson
11.LAMONT 14. Danielli
13.Philip
12. Henderson
10.Parks
9. Cusiter
just give them time and they'll work like clockwork!!

Posted by Geordan on April 10, 2004 07:24 PM | Reply to this comment

What about Simon Webster?

Posted by big jim on April 11, 2004 10:32 AM | Reply to this comment

Smon webster hasnt got the pace or stregth of danielli. in fact, i dont rate webster at all. Danielli's try against england was great!

Posted by big jim on April 12, 2004 12:31 PM | Reply to this comment

And another thing, i was at the england match and you could see how much scotland need a player lke lamont. Paterson hits a perfect cross-kick and webster catches but instead of haring round josh lewsey, he tries to be clever and the resul: being tipped on his head and gettin his underwear revealed to the world. BRING IN LAMONT!!

Posted by Robbie on April 12, 2004 08:56 PM | Reply to this comment

What have you got against Webster? I was at the 2 home games at the 6N and he was one of our more dangerous players. Danielli is good too but Lamont and Webster should both be accomodated in the team some way as they are both versitile and talented.

Posted by big jim on April 12, 2004 11:14 PM | Reply to this comment

nope webster is not our most dangerous player because he is not as strong or as fast as danielli how could you say he was?? plus hes english

Posted by Sam Urai on April 13, 2004 05:55 PM | Reply to this comment

I have been thinking that perhaps Sean should go Full-Back for Scotland and move Paterson to the wing with Danielli. (Sean will have to study videos of JPR Williams to know how to really play in the Full Backs position). The alternative of Hinshelwood or Lee at Full-Back does not make sense. Mind you I feel Scotland are also weak in the Centre positions. Back row provides options for Sean too, however I do rule him out of the Scrum-half and Hooker positions because he is not good enough for them.

Posted by Robbie on April 13, 2004 08:11 PM | Reply to this comment

I see that you are not a regular follower of the Scotland team, otherwise you would have known that Danielli is pretty much as English as Simon Webster. Both spent most of their lives in England and have played for English clubs. The only difference is that Danielli played for English youth teams and still plays his club rugby down south, while Webster not only played junior rugby for Scotland but also had the guts to move up here to further his chances of an international career.

PS I can guarantee Sean is Scottish, our 'debates' could point you that way!!

Congratulations Sean, in your 'Player of the Year' award, last night!

You deserve it for your workman-like regular play and spells of brilliance. I like your rugged tackling and aggressiveness; also your running style. It's hardly gazelle-like and, therefore, very difficult to tackle.

Lamont should be playing flanker because he's not fast enough for wing.

Posted by JK on May 17, 2004 02:40 PM | Reply to this comment

Looks fast enough to me.

Posted by samurai on May 23, 2004 06:16 PM | Reply to this comment

The problem is that Scotland are not hard enough. They need the aggression of hard players. Scotland used to be renowned for hard, tough players. Has professionalism made Scotsmen soft... me thinks so!

Where are our John Beatties, our David Leslies who would mince anyone who dared to walk out on Scotlands hallowed turf of Murrayfield. Nowadays, as professionals, players have lost that edge. We as a nation need hard, aggressive, die for the ball players... flankers in other words.

We need the type of aggression to frighten opponents, not just the skills to get round them. Skills can be learned... toughness comes from the heart.

Sean Lamont would be a tremendous flanker... he is fast, strong, good looking... and aggressive enough to be a No. 7. Do the management have the balls...?

Posted by uineill on May 29, 2004 06:29 PM | Reply to this comment

Can anyone help me??.... I want to know what Sean's brother is called + also when Scotland played Wales I heard the commentators comment on Heinz? Please can anyone give me some details on this player as he is very good + I would like to do further research into him. Can anyone answer my 2 questions?

Posted by Envy on March 28, 2005 07:46 PM | Reply to this comment

Well his brother is called Rory...or ICON as some refer to him...and Heinz is actually Hines. Of the scumbag Edinburgh lot. He is a second row and will sadly, like Sean, be leaving Scotland for pastures new. Although Nathan picked a better climate in Perpignan.

Hope it helps...
