Ospreys 23 - 15 Glasgow Warriors

GUINNESS PRO14 match played at Liberty Stadium on Saturday October 24th 2020 | No comments

Glasgow Warriors will leave the Liberty Stadium empty handed after this evening's PRO 14 defeat to Ospreys.

Tries from Huw Jones and George Turner inside the game's opening quarter had put the Warriors in control early on, only to see the home side come back into the match to take victory in torrential conditions.

"Ultimately, for the first 30 minutes of that match we were in complete control of that match," a disappointed Wilson told glasgowwarriors.org post-match.

"We should have taken way more points from our opportunities. We weren't clinical enough, and then we came out and made way too many errors in that second half. We looked flat and gave the ball away too often.

"Credit to Ospreys because the defended well, but our lack of accuracy was hugely frustrating."

Whilst the likes of Jones, Nick Grigg and Grant Stewart were just three of a host of Warriors to break the line and create scoring opportunities, Wilson's men were ultimately unable to add to their two early scores. A Peter Horne penalty proved to be Glasgow's only score of the second half, something that adds to the frustration of the Warriors Head Coach.

"I think we were so close on so many occasions, only to spill the ball and then be defending inside our own half," said Wilson

"We have to be better in that area. It felt like we had no territory at all in that early part of the second half. There were a few situations where we lost the momentum we had built in the first half, and that allowed Ospreys into the game.

"It's a very new group with some new combinations, so it might take some time. There were elements of that match that we liked, but in the end it's a game that got away from us and one we'll look back on with a lot of frustration."

Wilson and his squad now have nine days to regroup and work towards rectifying any errors in their performances, before welcoming reigning champions Leinster to Scotstoun on Monday 2 November. Whilst the result in Swansea stings for the Warriors, Wilson was still able to identify a couple of highlights even in defeat.

"To go from being comfortable to coming away with nothing is disappointing. We'll take a lot of lessons from that game as a group, though," said the Glasgow boss.

"I thought Jamie Dobie did some excellent work at scrum-half, and showed real composure as a 19-year-old. Hamish Bain fronted really well tonight on his debut - he's still a second-rower who's developing and he had to play a lot more than we perhaps wanted him to due to no second-row cover, and I thought he did very well.

"The game time and experience will serve these young players well in the long run. Right now, though, we're all disappointed to have lost that game."
