December 27, 2025Edinburgh 3 - 21 Glasgow WarriorsUnited Rugby Championship match played at Murrayfield on Saturday December 27th 2025 | No comments
![]() George Horne burrowed over for Glasgow's second try Glasgow Warriors secured four URC points and the 1872 Cup with a 21-3 win over Edinburgh at Murrayfield this afternoon. Warriors held a 24-12 aggregate cushion from last week, and never looked like letting this one slip. Jamie Dobie's first-half try had the Warriors 7-3 up at the break, with Cammy Scott's boot the only thing keeping Edinburgh on the board in a pretty scrappy opening 40. The second half threatened to drift by with numerous stoppages and errors, but just when it looked like the match might fizzle out completely, Glasgow found another gear. First up, George Horne did what George Horne does - sniffed around the fringes and wriggled over from close range. Then Dobie produced a moment of class, grabbing his second to put a shine on the scoreboard and kill off the tie for good. Edinburgh had spoken about firing more shots after their blunt showing at Hampden, but never really threatened. Scott nudged them into an early lead with a penalty, but once again there was little bite to their attack despite plenty of effort. Adam Hastings came up with a moment of quality, taking a pass from Horne, stepping back inside and pinging a beauty of a cross-field kick for Dobie to finish in the corner. Edinburgh were handed a lifeline when Angus Fraser saw yellow for a high shot on Scott with half an hour to play, but even against 14 men they couldn't muster any real threat. Territory near either try-line was a rare commodity. Eventually, Warriors clicked back into gear. Edinburgh defended bravely, but it was only a matter of time before the dam burst, Horne darting over to seal it. Dobie then rounded things off, a clever little kick ahead and a chase to dot down. Warriors went looking for a try bonus, but kicked away when they thought they had a penalty advantage, and referee Hollie Davidson brought an end to proceedings. Glasgow head coach Franco Smith told Premier Sports: "The boys have had enough time to get away with families. Good to get the result. "Disappointed [with the way the game finished]. It would have been good to get a bonus point. "This is a derby. The opposition are always going to come out with their heart on their sleeve. They defended well, but it's about trust. We worked hard. "I always like another scrum-half on the wing. Two ball players on the edges and up the tempo a bit. "Jamie [Dobie] is a good rugby player and good players find a spot. Hopefully he can continue to progress because I think he can play for Scotland in that role as well." Glasgow wing and player of the match Jamie Dobie told Premier Sports: "It was really tough, a really physical game. "Massive for the league and to get nine points out of these two games and win the cup is great for the club." Glasgow captain Kyle Steyn added: "Our forwards put in one hell of a shift. Proud of the boys - both weeks we had what it takes. "We were adamant to come here and have a smile on the face when we lift the trophy. "The league's pretty competitive, so we'll enjoy this and then rip into Zebre."
