![]() Club legend Duncan Weir marked his last game for Glasgow with a try Duncan Weir marked his last game for Glasgow Warriors with a try in a convincing bonus point win over Zebre at Scotstoun this evening, The former Scotland fly-half and two-time league title winner with Warriors is stepping back from the game to take up a coaching role within the club's senior academy. Glasgow set the tone early. A slickly executed rolling maul sucked in the defence before scrum-half Ben Afshar darted free and popped the ball inside for Stafford McDowall to glide over untouched. Ollie Smith then lit up the night with a sensational solo effort, showing impressive pace and footwork to carve through the defence and score under the posts. Zebre briefly threatened when Guilio Bertaccini crossed against the run of play, but the Warriors had the final say of the half. Hooker Seb Stephen powered over from another driving maul to send Glasgow into the break 19-5 ahead. The visitors struck first after the restart through substitute hooker Giovanni Quattrini, once again from close range. The Italians were still hanging around, and the gap would have been narrower had they made their conversions, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Glasgow responded with a beautifully worked fourth try to secure the bonus point - clever hands created space for Duncan Munn to chip ahead, and Jamie Dobie won the footrace to the corner. Moments after coming on, Weir nailed a superb touchline conversion. The maul continued to be an effective weapon as substitute Gregor Hiddleston rumbled over for try number five, before the moment everyone was waiting for. Dobie tore down the touchline, stepped inside, and found Weir running a George Horne-esque "cheat line" to send the crowd at Scotstoun Stadium into raptures as the club great crossed for one last try before moving into an academy coaching role. There is surely no better role model for aspiring rugby players from Glasgow. Dobie added his second late on to cap a hugely satisfying evening for Franco Smith's side - and a perfect farewell for a Warriors legend. At full-time, Smith spoke about Weir, and how the final score slightly flattered his team. "I'm proud of him," said Smith. "I'm proud of the way he's finished. I'm proud of everything that he's contributed. He's never scored a try since I've been a coach, to be honest. I was really proud to see him score that, for him. He's such a contributor. We've got a philosophy - you've got to give to get. He embodies that saying. "I'm so glad for him that he ended up scoring a try and kicked a couple of conversions. I thought Scotstoun came alive when he came on. The energy flew through to the team. He ended up dislocating his finger and pulled his hamstring too, so it was the complete evening. Man of the match too, unbelievable." On the game itself, Smith thought the final score wasn't a true reflection of the challenge Zebre presented. "I'm always grateful for a win, so I can't say not. I think it's good that we finished strong. I always compliment the opposition sides when they play well. It's not always our mistakes or how well we play. It's how we're allowed to play. Zebre are proving that their squad depth is getting better. I just spoke to their coaching group there now and they are very proud of the effort. The scoreline does make it look like we won comfortably, but it was quite a battle out there." Weir's teammate Rory Darge told Premier Sports: "He got his try to wrap things up, which was unbelievable. Bar, maybe Toulouse two weeks ago, I don't know if I've seen the east stand react like that for a try. It's an honour to be playing in his last game with him." With two of Glasgow's seven tries and another great all-round performance, Premier Sports initially made Jamie Dobie their Player-of-the-Match, before shifting to Weir after he touched down for own his try. Speaking to former Warriors skipper Ryan Wilson, part of the Premier Sports team, Dobie said: "To finish it in style with a last run-out at Scotstoun is what he deserves and nothing more. "I'm really proud to be part of a day like this. He's an absolute legend and someone we can all look up to."
