Stafford McDowall is the Warrior to Watch
Disco looks ahead to Glasgow's visit to Cork to take on Munster at Musgrave Park this evening.

You can read more of Disco's thoughts on Glasgow's URC and European campaigns, Scotland's international fortunes, and much, much more at his excellent blog On Top of the Moon.

KO 7.35 at Musgrave Park
Friday 1st December 2023
Live on Viaplay Sports 1

- Glasgow's victory last season at Thomond Park was just their second away to Munster in the previous 15 years. It was also the first time the Warriors had ever scored 5 tries on the Irish province's turf.
- There are 12 returning starters from that game (6 for each side) with 23 players in total involved who also featured in March.
- The Warriors only win at Musgrave Park (from 8 attempts) came on the final day of the 2007/08 season when a Glasgow side led by Dan Parks eked out a 21-18 victory with tries from Thom Evans, Dougie Hall and Lome Fa'atau.
- This is the 80th time that Glasgow have played an away regular season fixture against the four Irish provinces in the league or European competition. They are looking for their 20th win:
v Connacht - 8 wins
v Ulster - 5 wins
v Munster - 4 wins
v Leinster - 2 wins
- Captain Fantastic, Stafford McDowall is the Warrior to Watch.

Matchday Milestones:
This will be just the 4th substitute appearance for Zander Fagerson in the last 5 seasons. During that time he has made 60 starts.

If he makes it off the bench, this will be Conor Murray's first regular season appearance against Glasgow in the league since December 2014 - a gap of 3,269 days. In that game at Scotstoun nine years ago his opposite number was Nikola Matawalu who was replaced by Henry Pyrgos for the final 14 minutes of the match.

Warrior to Watch:
Skipper Stafford McDowall will make the 50th start of his Glasgow career on Friday evening. The big centre has started 20 out of the Warriors' last 21 games in the URC and hasn't missed a single minute in their previous 14 league fixtures, playing 1,120 minutes in a row.

He's setting records as captain as well and has become a key part of the leadership group. His early season form has hit all the right notes with his intelligent kicking game in particular being a real boon to the side - although possibly slightly under utilised given the way Glasgow want to play.

All that and he jumps in the lineout as well - he's some fella!

Glasgow away to Munster in the URC / PRO14 / PRO12:
- 2 wins
- 7 losses
- 2 try BPs
- 4 losing BPs
- 14 points out of a possible 45 (31%)

Highlights from most recent meeting away to Munster:

Officials:
Referee: Marius van der Westhuizen (SARU, 18th league game)
AR1: Dan Carson (IRFU)
AR2: Sam Holt (IRFU)
TMO: Aimee Barrett Theron (SARU)

Mr van der Westhuzen's record for 2022/23:
Matches - 7
Average penalty count - 24.0 per game
Home side penalties conceded percentage - 45.1%
Average card count - 1.3 per game
Penalties per card - 18.7

This will be just the third time refereeing Glasgow for Mr van der Westhuizen. Rather discouragingly, both previous matches ended in defeat for the Warriors! In fact, looking more widely, Glasgow have lost their last 4 games with South African referees. It will take a mighty performance against Munster if that streak is to be brought to an end.
