Glasgow No.8 Jon Petrie starts at openside flanker in the Scotland team to play the Barbarians tomorrow at Murrayfield (ko 7.00pm). Glenn Metcalfe and Gordon Bulloch start in their more familiar roles at full-back and hooker.

Winger Rory Kerr is included among the Scottish replacements and is certain to play at some point. Rory's inclusion marks a big change in fortunes for the popular winger who dropped out of favour at Glasgow during a turbulent season under controversial coach Kiwi Searancke.

Jon Petrie's selection at openside was described as a "golden opportunity for an intelligent, good rugby player," by assistant coach Jim Telfer.

Edinburgh's Chris Paterson will finally be given the chance to play at stand-off, and former Glasgow centre James McLaren will be utilised on the left wing. McLaren is not entirely new to the position having played there a number of times for Glasgow as well as during his rugby league career in Australia. Former Warriors, Gordon McIlwham, Dougie Hall and Jason White, are also included among the Scottish replacements. McIlwham has been linked with a move back to Glasgow but the move now appears unlikely to take place.
