And with so much "local knowledge" available, Glasgow Warriors coach Hugh Campbell accepts it will need something a bit different to swing the balance.
"It is a big, big game for both teams," said Hugh. "We are both desperate to get away from the bottom of the table while for us it is also a case of, starting this weekend, trying to make sure we win our remaining home games and taking anything else as a bonus.
"We are very keen to get things right and back on track after last weekend and our defeat by theNewport Gwent Dragons but we know that Borders have a lot of talented players.
"Doddie Weir remains an outstanding line-out player and any side that has Gary Armstrong in it has to be given total respect.
"The positive news and bonus for us is that wing Rory Kerr, who has been out with a shoulder injury, should be back. In the match against Munster he was highly involved, scoring and laying on a try, and he is a good guy to have around.
"Obviously we both know each other's players, and styles of play, pretty well and it is up to us to come up with a few different things. I am sure they are thinking along the same lines so it should be interesting.
"The Dragons defended very well, they were very active and physical in that area while we did not perform or react. It was very disappointing and certainly did not make for the best journey home. Now we must get it right against Borders."
