JP and GB to leave?

Posted by Editor on March 14, 2005 10:11 AM | 16 comments | Print | E-mail author

Jon Petrie could be on his way south to the Zurich Premiership
Today's Herald reports that Jon Petrie and Gordon Bulloch are set to leave Glasgow for the English Premiership.

Glasgow won't be receiving additional funding - Edinburgh and Borders will both get a cash boost - as they attempt to assemble a squad for next season.

Sean Lamont has already caught the attention of Northampton and is reported to have had signing talks with the English ZP club.

Sad to see them go. Espically JP who has had a stormer. Better have contracted replacements for them.

I'm thinking Thomson and Swindall?

Very sad to read of the imminent departure of JP. He is a model professional. Both Jon and GB, however, are at an age when they have to decide on their futures; do what is best for them. We must wish them both well.

Still, the main thing is we will be saving a few pennies for the SRU and enabling Edinburgh to strengthen. Must be almost a week since they were last allowed to sign someone.

No point in whining about Edinburgh. They're just trying to survive in the same way Glasgow is. If the best we can do is attract a couple of thousand to live friday night rugby in the biggest city in Scotland then we're not doing too well.

I'd be sorry if Jon Petrie went away...

JP would be a big loss, not so sure that GB would, but wish them well...

Some chat about Dave Millard going back to play for Aberdeen -if that is the case and it could affect relegation

It will be tragic to lose our captain. I know I've said it before, but JP gives 100% and earns the respect he gets on and off the field. Appreciates the fans. Think again JP, please !!

I suspect Jon's thought hard about this one. Although at the end of the day the guy's looking out on his own playing career because his employer certainly isn't. The SRU should hang their heads in shame the way they have treated thier playing staff.

Its going to be difficult to hold on to the good quality pros when Scottish rugby is in such a state of chaos. Currently there is no guarantee that there will be professional teams at all in a couple of years and with the Williams regime making fools of everyone it is unlikely that any Scottish pros will be playing at a high level anywhere unless they are down south.

Cool name, but I think you'll find it's Trade Marked. £20,000 fine, 10 years in the pokey or both for you, old boy.
