Born in Dundee, JP's last game in Caledonia saw him become Scotland's 106th captain when he led the national team out in the 38-7 victory over the Barbarians at Pittodrie in Aberdeen.
Earlier that season, he scored an outstanding solo try, sprinting from almost halfway in Scotland’s historic 100-8 victory over Japan at McDiarmid Park.
Scotland A team head coach Henry Edwards said: "Jon has a lot of experience of captaining and playing at the highest level. To lead the Scotland A team out in front of a Caledonia crowd will bring back some fond memories of Scotland's last two outings in the region."
