For Rory to have worked so hard for so long to come back from his latest setback to then have to make the decision to retire must be heartbreaking.
As a player, Rory's qualities were obvious. Big, strong, quick and brave, it would have been great to see how he fitted into the style of running rugby the Warriors are developing.
Rory is one of rugby's more cerebral players and it was always interesting to listen to his views on the game in Scotland, England and France. His Twitter posts also offered more stimulating views than is usually the case among sportspeople - much more Chomsky than Nando's.
He is always generous in giving his time to supporters - especially youngsters - and Rory has been a good friend to this website.
We know Rory will attack his new challenges with the same enthusiasm he showed on the rugby pitch and we're sure he'll be a success in whatever he decides to do.
