After the dour game at Parc y Scarlets, played in dreadful conditions, Gordon Reid reflected on the positives they can take into the 1872 Cup.
Speaking in the Herald, Gordon said: “We made it difficult for ourselves with stupid knock-ons and obviously yellow cards. Conditions were not the best but we are professional players and we are taught to play rugby in all conditions.
“When we went down to 13 we tried to slow the ball down a bit and do the simple things right, tighter ball, runners off nine - the things you usually do when you are down men.
“It showed you don’t need to play with flair to win. We like to show a bit of offload, evasion going through the contact, fancy rugby as such, but this was old fashioned rugby, put it up the jumper and take it through the forwards a bit.
“We needed that, especially leading into next week against Edinburgh. They are more forwards orientated which will make it a real battle for us in a similar way it was against the forward pack of the Scarlets.
“We are up against the Scotland front row and they are class. We are friends of some of the boys at Edinburgh, so it would be good to go there and get a good result.”
