Matt Fagerson's season is over after suffering an ankle problem in the defeat to Leinster in the European Champions Cup. The injury isn't as serious as initially feared but the back-row man faces ten weeks on the sidelines.
Zander Fagerson missed out last week due to concussion protocols but he picked up a calf injury in training on earlier in the week. Franco Smith is hopeful the elder Fagerson brother could play again this season.
On Zander, Smith told Scotland Rugby News: "What a disappointment, I think. The last scrum on Tuesday, he just felt something going and obviously it was more serious than thought. So, he's going to be out for the foreseeable future.
"Clarity on how long, we will give it all, but as we see his progression as maybe next week and the week after. But we will also give him a good chance to have a good physical preparation for the summer, may with Scotland or with the Lions.
"It's still three months away from the summer activity, so we hope to recover him maybe for the final part [of the season] anyway. So how much of that will be doable, we will see. But it's unforeseen so late in the season to have something like that. From our perspective it's a pity to have that type of injury to an important person in our environment."
On Matt, Smith added: "It's better than expected, but it is still a surgical issue. It is ligaments more than a bone injury, so that is the positive on that part. It will be three months or so. I want to go for an eight to ten week injury instead of something more serious that we originally thought it might have been."
The treatment room at Scotstoun has been a busy place this season with Glasgow a long list of layers spending time on the sidelines this season. Smith thinks being URC winners last season could be a factor.
Smith added: "I know everything happens for a reason but it's been an interesting season.
"A lot of bone bruises, a lot of contact injuries which is strange. The soft tissue injuries are limited to one or two.
"It's all impact injuries, and I think that says a lot. Once you become the target or you want to progress, I think everybody up there will want to come to you with a big physical challenge.
"So we've had a lot of injuries but again there's a number of the boys coming back and we'll be back in time to hopefully contribute towards the end [of the season]."
