"I see the French papers are on about that so I think our media team will be on it to find out where this comes from," said Smith ahead of Glasgow's URC meeting with Zebre.
"I'm not sure but I'm not going to deny or admit to anything at the moment."
Asked if he was confident Hastings would still be at Scotstoun next season, Smith replied: "I'm super proud of the fact that other clubs want our players. You know, that's also part of my job here is to give players the opportunity to become the best version of themselves.
"I'm not sure exactly what the process is and where they are with this whole thing, but for now I would rather comment on that when it's made official by us."
The match against Zebre will see club legend Duncan Weir bring down the curtain on his career.
Weir has taken a coaching role within the club's academy, though Smith did confirm Weir will be available in an emergency until the end of the season.
"We're going to keep him fit and able," he said.
"I think Matthew Urwin is developing nicely to step up but if trouble does come our way that Duncan will still remain fit until the end of the season in case of emergency. But for now we would like him to focus on what he's going to do next and he's really excited at doing that.
"But I know tomorrow will be also quite emotional for him because to finish your career is always something that comes with a tear."
Jack Oliver is a potential debutant off the bench having been included in a matchday squad for the first time.
Oliver is the son of former Scotland scrum-half Greig Oliver, who was tragically lost his life while watching his son represent Ireland at the U20 World Championships in South Africa in 2023.
Smith knows it will be a special night for the young scrum-half if he makes his debut.
"I think he's got a good all-round skill set and obviously also that he's part of our project here. We've got three or four objectives. The first one is to win, the second one is to manage our internationals to be the best they can be.
"To bring these young players through is one of the other objectives and to play the brand that our spectators love.
"He is obviously one of the young boys that we think has got a bright future ahead and we would like to introduce him now, even if it's just from a little bit of a taste, so that he knows now on the training pitch and in his next development phase that he knows what it takes."
Smith is hopeful Huw Jones and Kyle Rowe will be fit in in time for the key Champions Cup matches with Clermont and Saracens over the next fortnight.
Josh McKay, who suffered a hamstring strain in win over Toulouse, is also expected to be available for those matches.
