Dempsey: We came out hot

Jack Dempsey played one of his best games for Scotland
Jack Dempsey hailed Scotland's fast start and clinical edge after their 50-40 win over France at Murrayfield this afternoon.

The No.8 said the Scots kept their promise to start strongly and build momentum early, a platform that ultimately proved decisive in a high-scoring contest.

The Scots travel to Dublin next weekend knowing a win over Ireland gives them a Triple Crown and the chance of a first title since 1999 before the French host England later in the day.

Speaking to Scottish Rugby, Dempsey said: "We just did what we said we were going to do. We're going to come out hot like England. We're at home. We had the fans and we executed similar to England. And then we rode the wave from there.

"We got lucky with some of the bounces of the ball but at the end of the day we executed. We know that they would have come home strong once they got the the green light to kind of play from everywhere which is their strength which obviously led to to points on the back end.

"But we did our work early and we did it with real accuracy and I think that's you know, personally, really proud to be a part of a performance like that. For now it's back to work one more game to get and one more job to do.

"I think Sione summed it up best after the game in the huddle and said, you know, he's really proud that we kept our promise and what I mean by that is we talked all week, we talked all campaign about coming out hot and coming out strong against a good team. We did it against England and we promised ourselves that we'd do it again and it wouldn't be a one-off like a lot of people seem to think. And we kept our promise"
