The 25-year-old has already proven his versatility across the backline, featuring on the wing, at centre and full-back for Glasgow. However, until Smith handed him number 10 duties for the final 15 minutes against Cardiff, he had never played professionally at fly-half.
Ahead of the match, Warriors head coach Smith hinted that the Scotland international could be used there more often in future - and the experiment appeared to pay off, with Ollie Smith looking comfortable in the role.
Giving his assessment afterwards, the South African said: "It went very well. I think he's a good rugby player. The way we use our tens and the way Tom Jordan stepped into that role, it's similar.
"I'm excited about the fact that he stepped up and it looks like he's been playing there for a long time. I'm very happy with that."
When asked whether it could become a permanent option, Smith added: "Yeah, I think I'm going to make him train at nine this week. Then he can cover everything. We have the perfect sub-team with him and Stafford there. I think he's a good rugby player and we need to find ways to get him on the pitch."
