The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at Scotstoun since arriving from Racing 92.
Expected to back up Adam Hastings, Lancaster has instead started more games than the Scotland international and was preferred in both Champions Cup knockout matches by Franco Smith.
His toughest moment came in the defeat to Toulon, when he was replaced at half-time, but with Hastings leaving for Montpellier this summer, Lancaster appears set to take on the lead role - something he relishes.
"It's the responsibility every 10 wants to be honest," said Lancaster. "Being able to have a voice and lead teams and lead groups. Personally, I think that's a strength of mine, being able to speak and have the game understanding to drive teams in the game.
"So, it's obviously nice for the coach to speak highly of you, but again, a lot of hard work goes in on and off the pitch. Not just from my end, but from the game development side with watching games and stuff like that. I know I need to keep improving for myself and to develop my game.
"To be honest, I think I can get better at everything. I think for me, at the minute, it's just being able to make right decisions at all times. With everything happening in games, everything is happening so quickly, being able to be the calmest on the pitch and make right decisions.
"That's where you look at the best 10s in the world, they just keep making the right decisions at all times. I think the more you see pictures, the more you make the right decisions.
"I feel like my defence is strong, and then obviously keep working on my kicking game. It was probably a real strength at the start of the year, and then we've had some tricky kicking conditions, especially against the Bulls, which has obviously brought the percentage down a bit.
"So I think every area I can improve on, and it's obviously just an ongoing thing, but if I really dial in on just making the right decisions at all times, then I think I'm in a pretty good spot."
Glasgow are understood to be more likely to sign a versatile back than a specialist fly-half, leaving Lancaster competing with Matthew Urwin, Charlie Savala and Bailey Kuenzle for the role, while Ollie Smith is also seen as an option at 10.
Asked if he expects another fly-half to arrive, Lancaster said: "Unsure, that's not on my pay grade, but I think we've got a really good group obviously this year, not only with just Adam.
"Obviously Matty (Urwin) has developed massively this year, he's trained unbelievably, and then obviously we've got Charlie (Savala) to come back, because he's obviously been in rehab. We'll have a great group going next year, and obviously adding Bayley (Kuenzle) who is a utility player.
"So again we'll just bounce ideas off each other and we'll help each other out, but obviously stay competitive because we all want to play."
