Scotland confidence boost for Warriors winger

Kyle Rowe will need to be at the top pf their game when Ulster come calling to Scotstoun on Saturday
Kyle Rowe is determined to make the most of every opportunity for club and country as the Glasgow Warriors back sets his sights on next year's Rugby World Cup.

The 28-year-old has become a regular presence in the Warriors back-three since arriving at Scotstoun, with his performances in Glasgow colours helping him force his way back into the Scotland setup.

Having missed out on the 2023 Rugby World Cup after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury on his Scotland debut against Argentina in 2022, Rowe is keen to ensure he puts himself in the best possible position for selection for Australia next year.

His confidence was boosted further over the summer, when he started at full-back in Scotland's Nations Championship encounters with Argentina and South Africa, crossing for a try in each match.

"It's given me good confidence," said Rowe in The Scotsman.

"It shows that I can play against the best in the world. I show that with Glasgow as well. It's not just on the international stage but doing it on that international level obviously gives you that extra little boost.

"I wouldn't say I've got any more motivation than I did previously. My motivation is to always put on that Scotland jersey as many times as I can and represent Scotland to the best of my ability.

"Away from home against Argentina and South Africa I feel like I did that for the most part. I just want to build into this season and hit the autumn in the best form that I can be."

For now, Rowe's attention remains firmly on Glasgow, with the winger once again selected to start as Franco Smith's side welcome Ulster to Scotstoun this weekend.

The Warriors head into the encounter following a 26-20 victory over Munster at Thomond Park in their opening match of the new BKT United Rugby Championship campaign.

Rowe knows there is plenty of rugby still to be played before thoughts turn fully towards Australia.

"Yeah, it's a big year with the World Cup coming but I just want to play as many times as I can," he said.

"As long as I'm available every week, training well, playing well every weekend or whenever I'm picked in, that's all I can really do.

"There's a lot of rugby to be played this season, a lot to look forward to at the end of the year. Hopefully I don't miss out this time going to the World Cup."

Saturday's clash will also see Sione Tuipulotu make his return to the Glasgow starting XV, with the Scotland captain one of three changes made by Smith.

Tuipulotu starts at inside centre alongside Stafford McDowall, who moves to outside centre, while Fin Richardson comes into the front-row at tight-head.

Angus Fraser starts at openside flanker, with Rory Darge rotating to the replacements.

Ulster arrive at Scotstoun looking to respond following their opening-round defeat at home to Edinburgh, and Rowe expects the visitors to provide a stern challenge.

"They lost last weekend and they're not going to want to go 0-2 at the start of the season so we know they're going to bring everybody to try and knock us off and get a win," said Rowe.

"We just need to be on top of our game and put our game in place and go out there and get the win."
