Derby day opener


Peter Jericevich has joined Hawks from GHA
The new rugby season kicks off on Saturday when West Of Scotland take on Glasgow Hawks in a derby match at Burnbrae.

West will be hoping to hit the ground running in their first outing in the top league after promotion as Division 2 champions while there have been big changes at Hawks with Peter Wright returning to coach the Old Anniesland club.

Both clubs have made additions to their squads from the National Academy - Jamie Hunter and Peter Horne have joined West while Peter Jericevich, Andrew White, Andrew Kirkland and Nick Campbell have made the move to Hawks.

Hawks can look to the experience of Mike Rainey and Steve Gordon who are back at Old Anniesland while Rory Kerr has returned to Burnbrae after a couple of seasons with Hawks.

Hawks squad

Backs: Craig Gossman, Sean Murray, Ian Noble, Steven Duffy, Steve Gordon, Mike Rainey, Patrick Boyer, Robbie Hair, Peter Jericevich

Forwards: Gary Strain, Nico Nyemba, Gavin Mories, Allan Kelly, Nick Campbell, Andy Jackson, Graham Harkness, Andy Kirkland, John Maclay, Gordon Macfadyen

Kick-off on Saturday is at 3.00pm.
