Glasgow Hawks made the trip to face champions Currie and returned west with just a bonus point after going down 51-26 to the Malleny Park men.
Hawks seemed on course for success when they opened up a 14-0 lead thanks to tries by debut boys Ruaridh Jackson and Sean Murray, the former converting both.
But then Currie's pack seized control with devastating effect.
They hit back with touchdowns from Geoff Caldwell, Jim Taggart, Andy Reekie, Scott Burnett, Andy Adam and a Mike Fitzgerald double with the kick points being shared by Muir and Richard Sneddon.
Hawks could only counter with a penalty try awarded when Stuart Smith was the victim of a high challenge and a late effort by Greg Francis which at least salvaged a consolation bonus point.
GHA lost out 36-9 to Stirling County at Braidholm with James Noonan kicking the home points.
The 6-0 try count accurately reflected County's superiority in every department.
Their tries in the rout came from Massey Tuhakaraina, Ben Addison, Tim Clarke, Alex Moffat, John Hope and Sam Parlane.
Brian Archibald shared the boot points with Hope, while Jim Noonan's hat-trick of penalties was all that GHA could muster for their efforts.
Visiting teams usually leave Millbrae with little to show for their efforts but Dundee High snatched a narrow 23-22 win over Ayr.
Dundee made a bright start on the opening day of the season to jolt the confidence of last term's runners-up Ayr at Millbrae.
The Taysiders got off to a bright start, earning a pressure penalty through Barry Jones, but Ayr bounced back through full-back Grant Anderson's try.
High eased their way back into the picture as Jones steadied the nerves with his second penalty. And they earned a further boost in the build-up to the break as prop Alan Brown hurtled through.
Dundee stepped up the tempo after the restart and increased their lead in the 55th minute with another well-worked touchdown by Cammy Ferguson.
Jones added the conversion before Euan Grewer put Ayr in even more trouble with a third try.
Ayr's came back with Anderson converting Wilson's score - and they gave themselves a glimmer of hope when flanker Paul Burke sneaked through the tired visiting defence.
Burke went over again - only for Anderson's kick to drift wide.
