Glasgow crash out to Ulstermen

Glasgow crashed out of the Celtic League to Ulster in controversial circumstances. With Ulster leading 20 - 17 with a minute to go Glasgow turned down three very kickable penalty chances which would have tied the scores and sent the game into extra time.

Tommy Hayes had already missed two long distance penalty attempts but many observers felt that Glasgow had taken the wrong option. Despite tremendous pressure from Glasgow in the last few minutes great defence from Ulster kept out the Warriors and saw the Ravenhill men march on to a clash with Munster early in the new year.

Ulster deserved their victory as they seemed more capable of taking the chances that were presented to them whereas Glasgow often showed a lack of composure in attacking positions with the slippery conditions leading to numerous dropped passes from both sides.

A special mention should be made of the great support both teams received especially from the very vocal Ulster fans who made the journey and provided great entertainment.
