Proudfoot could be in contention

Tighthead prop Matthew Proudfoot will join the Scotland rugby squad again this week, but coach Ian McGeechan has given no indication as yet that he will consider him for selection for the second Test against the Springboks at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on Saturday.

Proudfoot, who is expected to join Glasgow shortly, is regarded by some experts as a solution to the Scots' scrumming problems after the visitors were given a hard time in this department of the game by the Bok front row of Lawrence Sephaka, Danie Coetzee en Richard Bands, especially in the first half. Scotland may even consider naming four props in their squad for the second Test.

"We arranged for Matthew to join us again, as he did last week before the first Test. We want him to stay abreast of developments in our camp," said McGeechan.
