The expansion of the Celtic League has been warmly welcomed by the Scottish professional teams.

"This is what we have been looking for since the competition was introduced two years ago," said Glasgow's David Jordan when the new format was announced. Does everyone feel the same way?

It was interesting to read the reaction of Donal Lenihan to the news of the changes to the Celtic League. The former Ireland captain, and player and manager of the British Lions believes that the expanded Celtic League is bad news for Ireland and threatens the progress they have made in recent years.

In his rugby.ie column he states: "There is no doubt that we have given too much to our Celtic cousins. Are we asking too much from a limited playing base in this country? I certainly think so. This will impact on the provincial and national sides. The consequences for the beleaguered clubs are too catastrophic to contemplate."

The Herald reports that Gloucester have lined up a pre-season friendly meeting with Glasgow on August 14.
