Australia were defeated 27-14 by France in Paris, while the Scots racked up 15 tries in the 100-8 win over Japan at McDiarmid Park.
But Gordon insists this will not make playing against them on Saturday any easier, as they will be keen to make up for their result last weekend.
"I think Australia will come to Hampden and try to right the wrongs of Paris last Saturday, but I don't think it makes it easier or harder for ourselves.
"We know what we have got to do. We have got to cut our mistakes down and apply as much pressure as we can and then turn that pressure into points.
"We will take a lot of confidence from the game against Japan, certainly from the scoreline.
"There were people scoring their first tries for us and a lot of our plays worked well, especially in the second half. But we've got to keep a lid on things.
"I have been in this position before where we have put points past teams and, suddenly, in the next game, we are facing stronger opposition and we don't do the business on the day.
"So we know it is going to be extremely difficult."
However, Glasgow based Gordon is looking forward to playing in his home town, and hopes they will be as noisy and supportive as the crowd at McDiarmid park.
"It will be a great experience for myself and the other Glasgow players so let's hope we get a good crowd.
"The game at Perth showed that taking rugby around Scotland can be turned into a great occasion.
"And, if it is half as good next week, then it will be another excellent occasion and one that can spur us on to get that famous victory.
"The Perth crowd for the Japan game were very noisy and supported us through the match, but that only came because we showed them what we can do.
"Throughout history you have had to give the Scottish crowd something to latch onto and support, you can't just expect them to turn up and give us their support.
"So it is important in the first 20 minutes that we do not give away the possession we did on Saturday and we create and take scoring opportunities."
