Gordon Bulloch, the Scotland captain, claimed yesterday that Glasgow, which is staging only its fourth Test match in 98 years, could become the nation's new rugby capital, especially if the Scots win at a venue where they have never lost.
Gordon tells The Herald: "It's going to be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion for the spectators to see a top-class side play at Hampden against a Scotland side that has a good chance of winning. Then again, if we get a win on Saturday, we could be playing there every weekend!
"The Glasgow rugby community should be big enough to fill the ground. We've shown at Hughenden that we've consistently had the biggest crowds of the pro teams."
His team mate and Glasgow captain, Jon Petrie agrees. "Hopefully the win over Japan will encourage a few more people to come out and support us against Australia this weekend."
"Its a big opportunity for us to promote the sport in Glasgow. A lot of people in the city won't make the trip to Murrayfield to see Scotland. But Hampden is on their doorstop."
"When the fans come out in numbers and get behind us, as they did at McDiarmid park at the weekend, it is such a boost for the players."
