Pencil him in for all the remaining games. Just one serious problem. For now he's a Glasgow Hawks player not an SRU contracted player! I'm sure Peter Wright may have something to say about that! Posted by Julian on January 24, 2005 09:48 PM | Reply to this comment A serious question HB - would he be contracted to Hawks, or a free agent? Posted by Highlandbrave75 on January 24, 2005 11:32 PM | Reply to this comment A serious answer Julian - ask Peter Wright, he may agree with what I and other's are saying about taking players from their club side each week to "fill in" numbers in the pro sides. Hasn't the SRU enough cash to offer him or any other player they continually call upon on a contract? Posted by Tom_B on January 25, 2005 12:12 AM | Reply to this comment Yeah, it'll be a lot easier when we can just tell guys like Colin Shaw that they'll have to go to England, Ireland, Wales, France,Italy etc if they want to be professional players. Posted by Highlandbrave75 on January 25, 2005 12:29 AM | Reply to this comment Exactly. Current foreign import contracts - £100,000 per year Why not offer the club "call upon's" contracts? I think people like Eric Milligan, to name one, deserves a chance after being called up so much ove the past few years. Posted by Julian on January 25, 2005 08:37 AM | Reply to this comment HB - you always complain about spin being put on information. The answer to my question was No. However, I *do* agree with the rest of your sentiments. Don't be so defensive. As I've said elsewhere, I am trying to get clear facts. Posted by Highlandbrave75 on January 25, 2005 01:05 PM | Reply to this comment Where's the "spin" Julian? This is what's REALLY happening in the pro/club game. The SRU can afford to pay an inflated salary to an Aussie import yet take players art free will from club sides and not compensate or pay the player or the club side a fee. Think of the players like I mentioned who have been called upon over the past few years. Don't they deserve a chance to sign a SRU contract? The SRU though would much prefer to spend their already depleted cash on one foreign import rather than sign a three of four of the players they rely on week in week out in the club game! That would aleviate the problems of a few injuries as the pro team would have a bigger pool of players and wouldn't need to dip into the club game for "fill in" players! There's no real "spin" about that Julian. Posted by Julian on January 25, 2005 05:21 PM | Reply to this comment I asked you a very simple question - not a trap, a genuine request for info. The 'spin' happened when you did not answer it, but went on to give all sorts of background. You sure you're not a politician? Again I say - I *agree* with you on this one! Posted by hugh on January 25, 2005 09:12 AM | Reply to this comment The bottom line here is Glasgow use Glasgow Hawks as their 2nd xv and they cannot afford to put our players on deals none of which are paid or are on contract to Hawks. eg Stuart Smith Add a comment to this articleIf you're replying to an existing comment, please use the 'Reply to this comment' link above the entry.
