Glasgow target Super 12 player

Glasgow are targeting a player who is currently involved in the prestigious Super 12 tournament in the southern hemisphere.

Today's Scotsman reports that Ian McGeechan, the SRU's director of rugby, met with the professional team coaches as soon as Scotland's clubs gave their backing to the teams at January's special general meeting and promised help secure key players and strengthen squads.

Edinburgh last week signed the former All Black prop Dave Hewett.

Lets not get our hopes up....its probably another oap looking to boost his pension, sorry for being a cynic, but what young (ish) decent player would want to play with any of the Scottish sides??

Andrew Merthens was talking about leaving for Europe after the lions tour. mmmmm...... sounds good yeh?! Highly unlikely though.

Mehrtens agent has reportedly been touting him about Europe at £200,000 pa. Methinks a bit rich for our blood.

Anyway, the SRU wouldn't allow him to come to Glasgow !!

And how many promising young Scots will have to leave for other pastures to accommodate, financially and playing wise, an aged crock from the Land of the Long Black Cloud?

"Glasgow are targeting" ..Edinburgh just signed ..Borders sign Cusiter for three years ..come on, this is nonsense. What have any of these teams got to do with it? SRU, SRU,SRU we don't even have our own exec now, let's not try to kid the general public that we have any say in this! It's rubbish ......

So what!!!! Are the Scottish sides the only ones in the CL to be punished by this parochialism? Why can the Irish and the Welsh field these players AND have their game improve. I want to see Glasgow win.

I thought that the reason for the Pro teams was to bring on Scottish talent not sign over the hill antipodeans
Hope no Scottish Executive/public money money goes into this

I thought the point of any sports team was to win.

You mean like the Borders lose almost all your matches finish bottom of the league and still get a place in Europe-- what a farce
