In today's Times, Lewis Stuart talks about the mixture of sibling pride, affection and rivalry that was on display as the brothers were unveiled at the Scotland training camp in Stirling yesterday. Who was faster? "We had a race the other week and he was ahead at 30 metres but I won over 50," Sean says. "Only because I had tweaked a hamstring," was Rory's version. "So he says," came back Sean's response.
"I would not say I have caught up with him in rugby terms, though I am getting closer," Rory says. "He set the standard for me to get to, it is a dream to play for your country and now I have got here. I came up to Scotland not even expecting a professional contract, but Glasgow gave me a go, got me fit and here I am."
Rory gets a vote of confidence from his brother: "I know he is good enough having spent quite a bit of time with him over the years, it will be great to play together," Sean says. "Mum said when I was only about four or five not that we 'might' but that we 'will' play for Scotland together and this weekend she is proved right."
As for the bed. Blame teenage training techniques. "We wrecked the bed," Sean recalls. "A bit of destruction, we were messing about, I dump tackled him on to the bed. It was not just one of the spars that went but the big main one. You can imagine how it pleased our mum. It was a good bed too."
