September 06, 2025Bath 47 - 14 Glasgow WarriorsFriendly match played at The Rec on Saturday September 6th 2025 | No comments
![]() Brent Jackson finished off a well-worked Glasgow try Glasgow's first outing of the season ended in defeat to Bath at The Rec this afternoon. A young Warriors team showed up well in the first half and forced a penalty try when Grant Stewart found Jare Obuntibeju from a lineout that set up a maul that was headed for the line before being illegally collapsed. Both teams changed their line-ups at the break but the home side proved reinforcements proved too strong for Warriors. However, Glasgow did go over for a fine try. New Warrior Dan Lancaster fed Johnny Ventisei, who put Angus Fraser through a gap into clear space. Fraser then found Brent Jackson and the scrum-half had enough pace and guile to outwit the last defender and dive over in at the corner. Speaking to Scotland Rugby News after the game, Glasgow head coach Franco Smith said: "I don't look to the result at all. "It doesn't affect what we did. I thought in the first half we actually did some really, really good stuff. We played well, we were physically very strong, then at half-time I swapped 13 players and that second group looked emotionally a bit flat. "What's important for the young players that we use is they need to know what it takes to play URC rugby. You can't buy experience -you've got to experience it. "Jare [Oguntibeju] and Maccenzie Duncan were very good. There was solid performance from the first group on the field. The backs, Keir Yule, Matt Urwin, Kerr Johnston, Fergus Watson "I prefer to have lost the way we did rather than to win or to make it tighter because that way we would not learn all the lessons that needs to be learned from this game, so, I'm absolutely not disappointed. We're excited to see where we are." Smith went on to talk about the injury picked up by Scotland prop Rory Sutherland, who is feared to have suffered an open fracture to one of his fingers. "That's unfortunate," Smith said, who revealed Sutherland's injury is not the only concern on teh propping front. "We have Nathan McBeth just returning to fitness now. Jamie Bhatti is still not ready to play rugby. Patrick Schickerling is still not ready to play rugby. Zander Ferguson is not ready to play rugby. "Murphy Walker is not ready to play rugby yet. We are a little bit under the pump regarding that from an injury perspective. We have to dig deep. "We'll have to go and see what we can do and who can we recover for next week." Warriors now face Northampton at Scotstoun on Friday, September 12. Team |
