Opening spell vital for Scotland, says Andy Craig

Andy Craig thinks the opening spell of today's game is vital to Scotland's hopes
Glasgow's Andy Craig thinks the opening spell of today's game at Murrayfield is vital if Scotland want to put one over on Grand Slam chasing Wales.

In today's Sunday Times, Andy tells Lewis Stuart that with a potential Grand Slam decider the following week at stake for the Welsh, nerves might just start to creep in if the Scots can get in among them and make a nuisance of themselves. "If you can get in there early, perhaps read one of their plays, or stop a move 15 yards behind the gain line with a big hit, then it's a big psychological boost. It's what we call an energiser, it just gives everyone in the team a lift," says Andy. "In the first two games we had Jason White doing that kind of thing. This weekend is a great opportunity for the backs.

"If 20 or 30 minutes go by and Wales haven't done much then hopefully they might start to panic a bit. There's always a chance they might start over playing things and making mistakes."

If the opening spell was so dangerous or vital, why did they stand back and let Wales run over them?
