Sean Lamont has signed for Northampton Saints
Glasgow winger Sean Lamont has signed a two-year deal with Zurich Premiership side, Northampton Saints.

Sean will join up at Franklin's Gardens in the summer.

Sean moved from Rotherham to Glasgow in 2003 and finished his first season by picking up the Glasgow Player of the Year trophy at the Scottish Rugby Union awards dinner. He made his international debut a year later against Samoa and has gone on to earn 12 caps to date.

Born in Perth, Sean played in 30 league and cup games for Glasgow last season and scored 12 tries. He has scored five tries so far this season, including one in every away game in pool three of the Heineken Cup.

Northampton coach Budge Pountney said: "We are delighted Sean has decided to join Northampton Saints. He has shown already this year what a raw talent he is in the Heineken Cup when he tore teams apart, including us, with his incisive runs.

"He is in the mould of a big physical winger with pace with a high work rate but also proves to be very elusive on the rugby pitch we are very much looking forward to welcoming him and working with him here at the Saints."

Sean became a huge favourite with the Glasgow supporters with his hard running and tough tackling. Everyone at glasgowwarriors.com wishes him the very best of luck with his new club - but hopefully he'll sign off with a few more tries wearing a Glasgow shirt.

Well done SRU! Well done indeed!

Och good luck to the guy. Had a great season so far and deserves it. Wonder how much he will get on with Fox though?

Ah well, suppose Northampton will have to become my 'English' team now...

JP is very highly rated by the Northampton fans. They're losing a couple of backrow men too.

How many more, come on Mr Campbell, sign someone or we aren't going to have much of a team for next season!

Not really Hugh Campbell's fault. Looking to blame people look no further than the SRU people accountable in looking after SRU contracts.

The door's at Hughenden aren't bolted shut yet....there's still more to leave Glasgow.

All the very best Sean for the move to Northampton. Sorry to see you go, you've been a great servant to Glasgow.

not many players can bring an air of expectation over a ground just by catching the ball or lining up a tackle, Sean did it from his first game. Best of luck now he's going, just wish somebody would wake from the nightmare and say it ain't so.

I hate to tell you, Highlandbrave75, but it is Hugh Campbell that holds the key to who stays, who goes. Not the SRU. Sean will not be the last.

I hope that money was not the key here and Sean was going for other reasons anyway.Otherwise money should have been spent to keep our most exciting player.Increase the popularity of our pro teams Mr Grainger? attract new fans? ..by letting the best known ones leave?

Duncan, rubbish, absolute rubbish

Ok then let's just say he may have a little "input" into what players are there. Overall though it's the small cog in the giant wheel. The SRU brigade make the decisions at the end of the day.

Sean hasn't done too badly out of his brief stay at Glasgow......... he has a lot to thank Glasgow for.It hasn't been a one way street. He wasn't forced to leave either.

must say I agree, two seasons isn't long and well the phrase involving carpet and bag come to mind. But we are living in a material world.

Ach, I don't think we can have any complaints - the guy gives 100% every time he wears a Glasgow shirt - what more can you ask for? He enjoys a blether with supporters and he's popular with the other players. The set-up at Franklin's Gardens is first class - in comparison we're still playing at being professional up here. Hopefully Northampton can get their act together and help smooth out the rough edges to his game. Good luck to him.

So what are you saying Gordon? Glasgow is a finishing school for ex Northampton academy players to round off their game. I'll not shed tears for guys who haven't been here as long as the burgers in Hughenden. Big John is right he got what he come for a second crack at the ZP.

What am I saying? - Well the guy is a good professional and is going where he thinks his career can be advanced. No tears I'm afraid - I'm just sorry that at Glasgow we can't yet offer the same attractions that a club like Northampton offers a player.
